Jane completed a PhD at the Heart Research Institute in Sydney followed by a post-doctoral fellowship in cardiac imaging in the United Kingdom at the Royal Brompton Hospital. A/Prof McCrohon returned to Australia and began consulting at the St George Hospital where she was the Director of Cardiology for 5 years.

A/Prof McCrohon has a special interest in early detection and prevention of heart disease, and cardiac imaging modalities such as cardiac CT and MRI. Jane has full accreditation in both Cardiovascular CT and MRI and has set up numerous cardiac MR programs across Australia.
