Meet Dr Wai Kah Choo, Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist from Gold Coast, Australia

Dr Wai Kah Choo is a Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist located in the Gold Coast region with consultations at Southport (Gold Coast Private) and Tugun (John Flynn Private).

Dr Choo performs a wide range of electrophysiology procedures, such as SVT ablations, complex arrhythmia treatments for atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, as well as implantation and management of devices such as internal loop recorders, pacemakers, ICDs, and CRTs.

Dr Choo completed his medical education at the University of London on a government scholarship, including a period at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, USA. He received postgraduate training in various London hospitals and later trained in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology in Aberdeen and Melbourne. He established the Northern Territory’s sole electrophysiology service in 2017 and served as its Director.

He holds a CCT in Cardiology from the UK, as well as CEPS and CCDS certifications from the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE). Dr Choo is a Fellow of several medical societies and participates in CSANZ’s Atrial Fibrillation committee. He works as a Senior Lecturer at Flinders University, focusing on heart rhythm disorder education and research. Alongside this work, Dr Choo is heavily involved in research, having published extensively in the areas of supraventricular tachycardia and atrial fibrillation.
