Biography
Associate Professor George Matalanis is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon located in Victoria. He is the Director of Thoracic Aortic Surgery at The Austin Hospital and is a consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Epworth Eastern Hospital, Epworth Richmond Hospital, and Warringal Private Hospital.
A/Prof Matalanis has been integral in developing novel and ground-breaking techniques in aortic arch repair and the surgical treatment of acute aortic dissection, resulting in a significant reduction in operative mortality and cerebral complication rate. Additionally, other areas of aortic surgery clinical and research interest include valve sparing root replacement, Ross procedure, homografts and stentless valve replacement, thoraco-abdominal aneurysm repair and stent graft endovascular repair of thoracic aneurysms and dissections.
A/Prof Matalanis has been widely recognised for his experience in thoracic aortic surgery both in Australia and internationally and has been frequently invited to present his clinical techniques, results and research. He is diligently working towards establishing a statewide Thoracic Aortic service providing state of the art treatment for patients with complex aortic pathology.
