Biography

Dr John Hayes is an Electrophysiologist located in Queensland. He is a Director and Founding Member of the Queensland Cardiovascular Group (QCG) and is a Visiting Medical Officer at the St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, the Holy Spirit Northside, the Greenslopes Private Hospital, and the Mater Private Hospital.

Dr Hayes graduated from the University of Queensland and completed his advanced cardiac electrophysiology training at the Prince Charles Hospital. He holds Fellowships with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Dr Hayes has a special interest in the field of cardiac electrophysiology and cardiac arrhythmia management. He was instrumental in the establishment of a leading Cardiac Electrophysiology Service at the St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital with Dr Wayne Stafford. This unit has continued to provide leading clinical practice of cardiac electrophysiology testing, curative radiofrequency ablation procedures for arrhythmias and atrial fibrillation ablation. He also leads in the field of cardiac pacemakers and implantable defibrillators (ICD).

Through collaborative partnerships, St. Andrew’s Electrophysiology Service also leads with radiation reduction, having the only installed St Jude Medical MediGuide system in the southern hemisphere and the only Boston Scientific Rhythmia high resolution 3D mapping system in Queensland.

He has served as the Deputy Chairman of the Uniting Health Care Board, overseeing health services for the Uniting Church throughout Queensland, including the St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, The Wesley Hospital, and The Sunshine Coast Private Hospital.
