Dr Christopher Smith is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon who specialises in coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), valve repair and replacements, thoracic aortic surgery and minimally invasive surgery such as transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).

Dr Smith graduated from the University of Queensland before training in General Surgery and subsequently Cardiothoracic Surgery in Brisbane at The Prince Charles Hospital and in Melbourne at The Austin. Following this, he moved to the USA and completed a Postgraduate Fellowship at the University of Virginia Medical Centre Charlottesville.

He returned to Australia and commenced consulting as a Cardiac Surgeon at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. In 2003 he began practising at Greenslopes Private Hospital and is currently the Chair of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He also consults at St Vincent’s Medical Centre in Toowoomba.

Dr Smith has been actively involved in the TAVI program at Greenslopes Private Hospital and is an Accredited TAVI Practitioner.

Outside of his clinical roles, Dr Smith is also a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight, a charity that helps to organise non-emergency flights for patients requiring specialty medical treatment.
