Associate Professor Kal Asrress is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and Director of the Catheter Laboratory at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital, and Interventional Cardiologist at Liverpool Hospital.

A/Prof Asrress completed his medical training at the University of Oxford, followed by a Bachelors degree in Physiology at the University of Cambridge. He completed basic physician training at John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford, followed by coronary and structural intervention sub-specialty training at St Thomas’ Hospital London. During this time, A/Prof Asrress was part of the team that pioneered the transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) procedure in the UK.

A/Prof Asrress is experienced in all aspects of interventional cardiology, although he has a special interest in percutaneous coronary interventions and minimally invasive procedures for structural heart diseases.

Prior to his sub-specialty training, A/Prof Asrress undertook significant research towards a PhD at the Rayne Institute, King’s College London which was supported by the National Institute for Health Research and British Heart Foundation.

He has completed significant research which has been recognised in a number of national and international awards. Outside of his clinical roles, A/Prof Asrress has an active role in training and teaching.
