Dr Karthikeyan Gopal is an Interventional and Structural Cardiologist with a focus on general cardiology, coronary interventions, percutaneous valve procedures, and other structural interventions.

After completing his studies at Sri Ramachandra University in India, he traveled to Australia. He pursued postgraduate studies in infection and immunity at the University of Sydney and public health at the University of Western Sydney.

Dr Gopal’s medical career began as a dedicated medical officer at Coffs Harbour Hospital, NSW.  followed by a move to Queensland, where he joined The Prince Charles Hospital team. His dedication and passion led him to undertake a rigorous two-year coronary interventional fellowship at The Prince Charles Hospital, where he honed his skills in primary angioplasty, coronary angiogram, intravascular coronary imaging, physiological coronary assessment, and complex coronary interventions.

Keen to expand his expertise, Dr Gopal pursued a structural fellowship at St Bartholomew Hospital, London, a renowned quaternary referral center. During this time, he specialised in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), valvular interventions (mitral, tricuspid & pulmonary), as well as, structural procedures such as ASD/VSD/PDA/PFO closure.

Throughout his career, Dr Gopal has actively participated in various clinical trials as a sub-investigator, leveraging his Public Health degree to complement his research endeavors. He believes in evidence-based practice and strives to educate others through his associate lecturer role at the University of Queensland.
