Associate Professor Con Aroney is a Cardiologist and an Interventional Cardiologist with special interests in interventional cardiology, coronary heart disease and the percutaneous treatment of structural heart disease (mitral balloon valvuloplasty, ASD closure, septal ablation and percutaneous aortic valve implantation). He has served as the Chairman of the National Clinical Issues Committee of the Heart Foundation and a member of the Scientific Committee of the CSANZ. A/Prof  Aroney  founded the first comprehensive Chest Pain Assessment unit in Queensland while he was the Director of the Coronary Care Unit at Prince Charles Hospital from 1990-2005. He was made a member of the Order of Australia for services to Cardiology and the Heart Foundation in 2007 and has authored over 150 research papers, abstracts and book chapters with continuing interest in clinical practice guidelines, clinical research and quality assessment programs in cardiology.

A/Prof  Aroney is a founding member of Queensland Cardiology. He is the Director of Cardiology at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside.

He completed his graduation in 1979 from the University of Queensland and after his specialist training he undertook a clinical and research fellowship at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. He did his PhD from the University of Queensland for research in heart failure.
