Professor Darren Walters is a Structural and Interventional Cardiologist with an interest in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), complex coronary intervention, percutaneous mitral valve repair, implantable devices and left atrial appendage occlusion.

Professor Darren Walters is a Structural and Interventional Cardiologist with an interest in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), complex coronary intervention, percutaneous mitral valve repair, implantable devices and left atrial appendage occlusion.

He is currently the Director of Cardiology at The Prince Charles Hospital and Visiting Medical Officer at St Vincent’s Hospital Northside (Holy Spirit Northside Hospital). He is in private practice at Queensland Cardiology and also visits the Mater Hospital in Rockhampton monthly.

After completing his medical degree at the University of Queensland he completed his advanced cardiology training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Prince Charles Hospital. Following this, he completed a research fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, USA.

Prof Walters has held a number of leadership and research roles including CSANZ International Working Group and the CSANZ representative in the Australian Resuscitation Council, and Chair of the TAVI ACORD Registry. He has also actively contributed his knowledge to research journals and as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland.
