Dr Sandeep Arunothayaraj is an Interventional Cardiologist based in Melbourne, Victoria. He specialises in the treatment of structural heart disease and coronary artery disease, with particular expertise in heart valve implantation and complex coronary artery procedures.

Dr Arunothayaraj completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne on a full academic scholarship, graduating at the top of his cohort and was awarded for his academic performance during his degree, including being equal first rank in his MBBS cohort of 307 students and listed on the Dean’s Honours List in every eligible semester.

Sandeep then trained in cardiology at St Vincent’s Hospital, earning his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2018. He went on to complete a two-year Interventional Cardiology fellowship at St Vincent’s under the guidance of Professor Robert Whitbourn.

In 2021, Sandeep moved to Brighton, UK, to gain further expertise in structural heart interventions whilst concurrently completing a Doctorate of Medical Science through the University of Melbourne. During his 2.5 years in the UK, he gained extensive experience in all areas of structural heart interventions and had the opportunity to participate in a number of first-in-man device implantations, contribute to a number of publications and present his research at cardiac conferences across Europe.

Following this time, Sandeep moved to Dublin where he spent a further six months training in complex coronary intervention and chronic total occlusion revascularisation, and mastering the latest PCI techniques. Upon returning to Australia, Sandeep has performed over 300 heart valve implantations and close to 1000 coronary stenting procedures.

Dr Arunothayaraj currently practices in Melbourne, bringing his global expertise and a patient-centered approach to his work. He consults out of the St Vincent’s Private and Public Hospitals and Peninsula Private Hospital. He also consults to rural patients at Connected Cardiology in Shepparton.
