Dr Paul Sparks the Director of Electrophysiology at Epworth Hospital and also consults at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Melbourne Private Hospital. He has a special interest in cardiac arrhythmias, syncope, pacemaker and defibrillator implantation and management, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, inherited cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac resynchronization therapy, and heart rhythm problems in athletes.

Paul completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Melbourne and completed his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). He then completed a PhD in cardiac electrophysiology followed by post-doctorate studies at the University of California, San Francisco, USA. His research received a number of awards including the Young Investigator Award in Research and The Ralph Reader Prize from the Cardiac Society Australia and New Zealand.

Dr Sparks has a strong commitment to research and the supervision and training of future electrophysiologists and PhD students. He is a Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Medicine, University of Melbourne. His current research interests are in cardiac arrhythmias particularly on atrial fibrillation, stroke prevention and the relationship between Omega-3 fatty acids and the heart.
