Biography

Dr Omar Al-Mukhtar shares his message for patients over the age of 65 years old

Dr Omar Al-Mukhtar is an Interventional Cardiologist located in Melbourne, Victoria. He is experienced in all aspects of general and interventional cardiology, although he has a special interest in the treatment of structural heart diseases such as aortic stenosis, coronary artery diseases, hypertension and lipid disorders.

After obtaining an Australian Medical Council (AMC) Certificate in 2012, he completed training across a number of hospitals in Victoria and obtained his fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in Cardiology in 2020. Following this, Dr Al-Mukhtar completed further specialty training in interventional and structural heart interventions undertaking three clinical fellowships at Western Health, Monash Health, and the Victorian Heart Hospital.

Outside of his clinical roles, Dr Al-Mukhtar is also actively interested in research and clinical trials for new technology and therapies in cardiovascular medicine. He has completed a Master’s Degree in Clinical Trials Research from the University of Sydney and frequently contributes to clinical trials, research publications, and training junior cardiology doctors.

Dr Al-Mukhtar currently consults at the Victorian Heart Hospital, Monash Heart Private, Northern Hospital Epping, Epworth Hospital in Richmond, Sunshine Hospital and Footscray Hospital. He also privately consults at My Heart in Coburg and New Gisborne.
