Dr David O’Donnell is a Cardiologist Electrophysiologist with a special interest in the treatment of arrhythmias such as novel approaches for atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia ablation, cardiac device implantation and novel techniques for cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT).
Dr O’Donnell graduated from the University of Melbourne and was awarded 9 undergraduate awards for his outstanding achievements in medicine. He initially trained at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne before pursuing further training in Electrophysiology at the Freeman Hospital in the United Kingdom where he was also recognised for his efforts receiping the NASPE Fellow Clinical Research Award, Eric and Bonnie Prystowsky Clinical Research Award and was a NASPE Young Investigators Award finalist.
He currently consults at Warringal Private Hospital and Austin Hospital both in Heidelberg, Victoria. He is also the Director of Electrophysiology at Austin Health. A highly experienced Cardiac Electrophysiologist, Dr O’Donnell has performed over 5000 EP studies, ablations and device implants.
David is currently the Executive Manager of the GenesisCare Cardiology, Sleep and Respiratory Medicine network and was previously the Member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Clinical Management Committee (CMC) for GenesisCare Cardiology Victoria.
He is highly skilled in medical device treatment for heart failure and has pioneered a number of techniques in cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT). A keen educator, Dr O’Donnell frequently runs device implant courses for both national and international doctors and also spends a lot of time training in Asia and Europe.
