Dr Chris Raffel is an Interventional Cardiologist with current appointments at the Prince Charles Hospital, St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, St Stephen’s Hospital, Harvey Bay Hospital and the St Andrew’s Specialist Centre. He has particular clinical interests in percutaneous valve therapies, coronary, and structural heart disease management and treatment.
He completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Auckland in New Zealand in 1994 and commenced his advanced training at the Green Lane Hospital in Auckland where he obtained his FRACP (Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians).
Dr Raffel moved to Boston, USA to continue his training and experience, starting as a Research Fellow in Medicine (Cardiology) followed by a Fellow in Interventional Cardiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He then spent two years at the Harvard Medical School as a Clinical & Research Fellow in Medicine and Research Fellow in Radiology.
He continued to further his training completing various programs including the MitraClip Percutaneous Mitral Valve Repair Training Program at the MitraClip Centre of Excellence, (University of Virginia Medical Centre), and Edwards Transcatheter Heart Valve Training Program in Vancouver, Canada.
Dr Raffel has frequently and extensively contributed to research, teaching, and the medical community. He has multiple Advisory roles including the St Jude Medical Optical Coherence Tomography & FFR Program, and many other committees and societies. He has multiple journal editorial and reviewer roles with a substantial list of publications and frequently presents at international and domestic events.
