Originally from New Zealand, Dr Gilliland studies Medicine at Otago University in Dunedin graduating in 1997. He obtained Fellowship in General Practice in 2007and spent 9 years as a GP in Wellington, New Zealand before moving to Coffs Harbour in 2012.

He has completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Child Health with hospital experience including paediatrics, emergency medicine, cardiology, renal and respiratory medicine.

He has completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Child Health with hospital experience including paediatrics, emergency medicine, cardiology, renal and respiratory medicine.

He is currently Chair of the North Coast PHN Clinical Council (Coffs Chapter) as well as a Board Member of the Mid North Coast Division of General Practice. He has previously had advisory positions with The Medical Council of New Zealand, Wellington District Health Board and Wellington Regional Clinical Board.

His special interests include Child Health, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Gastroenterology, Musculoskeletal Medicine, Allergy, Eczema, Asthma and Travel Medicine. He is a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine and has led regional guideline development on Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Childhood Skin Infection.

In his spare time, Dr Gilliland enjoys travel and photography, kayaking and spending time with his family.
